This feature is supported in DotNet Help, HTML Help, WebHelp, WebHelp Plus, WebHelp AIR, and WebHelp Mobile output.
You can use the topic toolbar proxy to generate a Web toolbar anywhere in any topics. This is an alternative (or an additional option) to the regular toolbar that can be included in all online outputs (via the Help Viewer or through the use of skins).
The generation of topic toolbars is based on two elements—(1) settings in the Skin Editor and (2) the topic toolbar proxy.
Skin Editor settings There is a tab in the Skin Editor called "Topic Toolbar." The fields in that tab are identical to those in the WebHelp Toolbar tab. For example, you can include all default buttons in the toolbar; alternatively, you can create a custom layout and choose specific buttons to be included in the toolbar. A topic toolbar can display any toolbar items except for the logo icon.
Note: The "Select TOC" and "Select Search" buttons are not supported in DotNet Help and HTML Help outputs.
Topic toolbar proxy The topic toolbar proxy is used to tell Flare where you want the topic toolbar to be displayed in the output. If you want the toolbar to be shown at the top of only a few topics, you can insert the proxy at the top of each of those topics. If you want the toolbar to be shown at the bottom of all topics in your output, you can insert the proxy into a master page to be used for that target. You can even insert the proxy in the middle of text in a topic if you want certain toolbar buttons to be displayed there. The following steps show you how to do this.
You can control the look of the items in the topic toolbar by opening the Styles tab of the Skin Editor and modifying the styles under the "ToolbarItem" node. In addition, you can control the background of the topic toolbar through a style called "TopicToolbar," which is located under the "Frame" node. By default, the background is transparent so it will show whatever is behind it in the body of the topic. When you change any of these styles, they affect the settings in both the WebHelp Toolbar tab and the Topic Toolbar tab.
You can also use the Madcap|topicToolbarProxy style to change the look of the container holding the generated toolbar.
If you inserted the proxy into a master page, make sure the master page is associated with your target. See Associating Master Pages with Targets.
